The Kelpies (Brooch)

£42.00 GBP

Oh the intricacies of this piece and stunning acrylics!

In Scottish folklore, a kelpie is a shape-shifting water creature that can appear on land as a horse. They appear as grey or white horses, the sound of their hooves are often mistaken for thunder in the riverbed glens and loch shores, then traveller beware! Legend has it the Kelpie will entice a weary and lost soul to ride on it's back, then carry them down into water.

I took my inspiration for this piece from The Aberlemno Sculptured Stones, they are a series of Pictish standing stones originating in and around the village of Aberlemno in Scotland. The 5th picture shows kelpies carved into a standing stone with their galloping hooves and water serpent tail. The Celtic knot design depicts the flow of the waters.

Measuring 65mm x 67mm.

Two smooth pin findings adorn the back so there is no crossbar seen. A fretted rippled acrylic back make this piece pleasing from the back also.

Limited edition to 30 pieces. Also comes as a necklace.
