Freya
Did you know (... well you might have a pub quiz to go to!) that dragonflies are among the oldest flying insects on Earth, appearing around 300 million years ago, long before dinosaurs.
Across cultures, dragonflies often represent change, transformation, and adaptability because they spend much of their life underwater before becoming flying adults. Perhaps for this reason we can also find them referred to as 'Water witches' in folklore.
For me, whenever I see dragonflies, they gladden my heart. Much the same way as smelling the essential oil of hyacinth - I was an aromatherapist for over 30 years before becoming a foster carer and they are as wholesome to me on a visual level. (Now you know a snippet more about me!) However, they are flighty and zip away all too soon and I have to say, (because it would be remiss of me not to at least attempt a sales pitch) while wearing my tester brooch of this magnificent wee creature, I catch myself being cheered up as I catch sight of it in a mirror and of others delightful comments on it. So there you have it, a water witch by any other name. xx
Oh, I had better describe the piece... Named Freya, meaning Dragonfly in Norse mythology.
One of 5 colours ways because I just couldn't bring myself not to make all the testers, (I shall be getting told off by my daughter's!) the similarities between them all are the main body, top wing tips and the captivating iridescent acrylic that makes the wings dance and shimmer. This iridescent acrylic has also undergone a stunning delicate etching to depict the transparency of a lace-like wing.
The colourful ripple wings have a light smattering of a fine glitter throughout. The very nature of the acrylic, where it is cut and in which direction ensures that each piece is absolutely unique.
Measuring 77mm X 63mm. It looks and feels less than it's measurement, much like the real thing!
